The Choice of the Rich Ruler

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. Luke 18:18-19

If God is good and in him is the only good, then putting him in our centre is eternal life with him as we are created to share the joy of his Trinitarian love.

This is the gracious work of God and those who put him in the centre, would be willing to give up everything [1] for him, nevertheless God will be with him in this life and in the life to come, his life would explode into an unimaginable glorious one.[2]

And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

Luke 18:29-30

But if you choose to centre on yourself, like the Rich Ruler, on what you think is the ultimate good, taking the place of God in you. Then what is left is yourself, as the thing that you deem as good will eventually leave you and you will continue complaining, sulking that you have the shorter end of the stick, and it will continue for all eternity!

There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, in the end, 'Thy will be done'
